Animated Exeter 2016

February 18, 2016

Yellow Mouse Studios have been invited to be part on the panel at the Animated Exeter festival careers talk, for those aged 14 yrs or over. This is a chance for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the animation industry, to speak to local studios about how they got started, and what inspires them.

As part of this talk, our Creative Director thought he would share some of the animations that he really enjoys and have helped to inspired him as an animator/ CG artist.

Take a look at Daniel's thought below.

Balance is a German surrealist stop-motion animated film, released in 1989. It was directed and produced by twin brothers Wolfgang and Christoph Lauenstein.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Short in 1989.

I love this animation as it manages to tell the story of the different emotions without very many expressive facial options.

Key Lime Pie, directed by Trevor Jimenez in 2007.

In this animation you get a real strong sense of the film noir genre. The intensity and timing of the whole piece is awesome.

The Backwater Gospel, a horror thriller Produced at The Animation Workshop, 2011

This short really captures the sense of a dusty gritty frontier experience.

Zero, Directed by Christopher Kezelos, 2011. Screened in over 50 festivals and has won 15 awards including 'Best Animation' from LA Shorts Fest and the Rhode Island International Film Festival and has been nominated for an AFI Award in the 'Best Short Animation' category.

 A really beautiful looking short

The Big Story, Directed by David Stoten, Tim Watts. A nod to Kirk douglas, 1994

I remember seeing this film at the cinema, and it stayed in my mind until I discovered YouTube over a decade later, it was one of the first things I searched for. Since then I have watched it hundreds times. It captures a period of American film so perfectly, in a very witty way.

I hope you enjoyed these shorts as much as I do. If you have any shorts you love then please feel free to email me with your clips and tell me why you like them so much.

Thanks for reading.
